Resources for Undergrads

NASA L’Space Program

NASA offers hands-on experience in mission design through the Mission Concept Academy (MCA) and NASA Proposal Writing and Evaluation Experience (NPWEE) programs. These programs prepare students for real careers across the space sector and can lead to further internship opportunities in the following summers.

Brooke Owens Fellowship

The Brooke Owens Fellowship is a paid summer internship program for undergraduate women and gender minorities passionate about aerospace. It provides hands-on experience, mentorship, and networking with top industry leaders.

NASA Internship Program

NASA offers internships year-round for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students across a wide range of fields. In addition to engineering and science roles, NASA also offers internships focused on policy, international affairs, communications, and legislative work, giving students the chance to contribute to space exploration from a government and strategy perspective.

House Committee on Science, Space and Technology

The House Science, Space, and Technology Committee offers internships in the majority and minority offices during the fall, spring, and summer. Interns assist with legislative research, hearing preparation, and policy work, including projects related to civil, commercial, and national security space. The current majority website is linked above, however, one for the minority exists as well.

Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation

The Senate Commerce Committee offers internship opportunities in the majority and minority offices every fall, spring, and summer. Interns support a wide range of policy areas, including space and science, by researching, drafting memos, and assisting with hearings and legislation.

Lloyd V. Berkner Space Policy Internship

An internship for upper-level undergraduates in space policy, research, and governance.

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

There are various internship opportunities for students interested in science topics, like space. They offer paid full-time and part-time internships.

They are a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring the long-term sustainability of space activities. Offers policy insights, fact sheets, and The Handbook for New Actors in Space, a free guide for governments, commercial actors, and researchers.

Aerospace - Center for Space Policy and Strategy

A nonprofit that provides research, reports, and policy analysis on global space trends, including a 2025 agenda covering emerging space governance challenges.

Nonproliferation Policy Education Center - Space Policy 101

NPEC’s in-depth introduction to space policy is offered both as live courses on a seasonal basis and as constant resources that can be completed at one’s own pace.
